FAQ's - Adopting A Puppy From Nana

When deciding to purchase a Yorkie, you will have many questions, which might include:
How to select a puppy:
You can view pictures of available puppies on this site, my FB page (nanasstaryorkies), AKC puppy finder or CKC puppies pages. Once you have an idea of a puppy you are interested in please email me at dogwoodcorner@comcast.net or call me at 615-414-0129 for more information. It is important to limit the number of people who visit the puppies while they are very young in order to assure the health of the puppies and/or moms. Until they get to be at least 5-6 weeks old I am happy to send you pictures and videos. After 5-6 weeks, I will schedule visits to those who are seriously considering purchase and/or have placed deposits on puppies. To assure the health of the pups potential buyers will not be permitted to handle the pups or their moms. All buyers will be asked to assure that they are not ill and potentially wear masks. Buyers who have put a deposit on a puppy may ask for a refund after visiting the puppy in person as long as that request is made before the puppy is 6 weeks old. Thanks for understanding!
How old will my puppy be when it comes home?
Nana’s Star Yorkie’s will come home sometime between 7 and 12 weeks depending on their specific needs. 8 weeks is a general target, but I really want to make sure pups are well socialized and weigh at least 2 lbs.
How much are your puppies?
If you’ve done your research you know that Yorkie puppies are not cheap! I’ve researched many sites to be sure my pups are priced in line with other reputable breeders. Nana’s Star Yorkie puppies will be priced between $1800 and $2,500. Each puppy will be priced on their own individual merit and may not be individually priced before 4 weeks to more accurately determine expected adult size and features. Pricing depends on sex (females cost more), size (those charting to be smaller cost more), Registration type (AKC, CKC or APRI) and physical characteristics.
Sallie Belle will produce AKC puppies and Zoey Patricia will produce CKC/APRI puppies.
CAM’s List is an option for those who might need to make payments for their puppies.
HOW DO I PAY FOR MY PUPPY?
Payment consists of a deposit and final payment. Deposits are due when you select the specific puppy you want and want to have that pup held for you. Final payments are due upon picking your puppy up. Deposits are made via cash, or check and final payments are due in CASH only at pick-up.
What does the deposit consist of?
Deposits will consist of a $350 down payment. The down payment is refundable until the puppy reaches 6 weeks old, after that it is non-refundable. Deposits should be made either in CASH or by check. If a check is used, the puppy will be placed on a temporary hold until your check clears the bank. Once the check has cleared the bank the puppy will be listed as pending final payment.
What does the deposit insure?
Deposits are an agreement that the buyer intends to purchase, and a breeder agrees to hold, a specific puppy for purchase by the buyer.
Will my puppy be healthy?
All puppies will come up to date on worming, any applicable shots based on breeder’s vet recommendation, and a health certificate from the breeder’s vet. Breeder accepts no responsibility for the health of the puppy once ownership is transferred to the buyer. Buyer is STRONGLY encouraged to schedule an initial vet visit for the puppy with their own vet within the first week of ownership. Buyers are expected to maintain the health of the puppy through regular health visits and common sense feeding and care throughout the life of the puppy. Yorkies are very small dogs and require much care and supervision. Buyers are expected to agree to these expectations prior to purchase of the puppy.
What if I can’t keep my puppy?
If buyer decides for any reason that they cannot keep the puppy, breeder must be notified and given first right of refusal to obtain the dog at a discounted price.
In no instance will the breeder be expected to pay more than 25% of the original cost of the dog.
In no instance is the dog to be given to the Humane Society.
If the dog is to be returned prior to being fully vaccinated, buyer must certify that the puppy has not been exposed to distemper or parvo and has not touched the ground anywhere they may have come in contact with pets or pet waste where unvaccinated dogs may have been.
Dogs that breeder agrees to take back must return with proof of any vet care or vaccinations given after buyer assumed ownership. Breeder is not required to accept the dog back, but must be offered first right of refusal according the above statements.
Is there a purchase contract?
A copy of this page will be given to the buyer upon receipt of the puppy, along with the health records from the breeder’s vet and any paperwork needed to register the puppy if applicable. Buyer will be asked to sign and date this paperwork which serves as the purchase contract. Names of the buyer, breeder, puppy; along with the date of acceptance of the puppy and the purchase price will be included to assure each contract is specific to the individuals and dog participating in the purchase.
While these are the most common questions, it is important for you, the buyer, to read the entire contract. Owning any dog, specifically a tiny dog, requires changes to your home and lifestyle. If you are prepared for this wonderful journey, it will be fulfilling and extremely rewarding to you and your new fur-baby. If you cannot make this commitment at this time of your life it is best to wait until you are at a place in your life where you can. There is no judgement as timing is everything!
